The Coastal Path

  • is 103 km long
  • explores the entire Belgian coast, from the French to the Dutch borders.
  • starts or ends at the train station of De Panne and Het Zwin Visitor Centre.
  • is fully signposted via the yellow-red signs, the GPX is also available on our website (click on the arrow in the top right corner).
  • thanks to the coastal tram, you can divide the stages as you please.
  • and of course you will find plenty of places to stay and eat along the coast.

De Panne – Nieuwpoort (30 km)

The hike starts in the Westhoek Dunes Nature Reserve. After a first glimpse of the sea, you’ll walk through several dune parks and along the highest dune ridge on the Belgian coast.

Nieuwpoort – Oostende (24 km)

You leave Nieuwpoort along the river IJzer, after which dunes, dikes and beaches alternate. You walk along the provincial domain Raversijde with its fascinating war history and arrive in Ostend.

Oostende – Blankenberge (24 km)

You take the ferry and reach the old seaside resort of De Haan with its villas from the Belle Epoque. You continue past dune forests and beaches and enjoy beautiful views of the polder landscape beyond.

Blankenberge – Het Zwin (25 km)

Through a nature reserve, you walk into the port of Zeebrugge and quickly reach the centre of Knokke-Heist. Along dunes and polders, where you might spot large herbivores, you reach the Zwin Nature Park.
