GR 122

The GR 122 starts just across the Dutch border in the town of Hulst. From there, it runs through the entire province of East Flanders. At the language border, it joins the GRP 123 Tour de la Wallonie picarde until Bernissart in Wallonia, where the GR 122 splits off again. After 470 km, the trail connects to the GR 12 near Son.

Your hike starts through the vast polder landscapes of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in the Netherlands. After 25 km, you cross the Belgian border and in Moerbeke, you enter the Waasland region. Surrounded by rolling fields, the canal the Moervaart leads you from Lokeren to Lochristi. Azaleas and begonias cover the fields with colourful blankets in this flower region. From Wetteren, the river Scheldt takes you further west to Melle and Merelbeke. The hilly Land van Rode gives way to the Zwalm region, where wind and water mills bear witness to the past. In the Flemish Ardennes, you hike through several forests: Brakelbos, Muziekbos and finally the Kluisbos on the language border.
