The Grensroute (Border Route) meanders along the Belgian-Dutch border for 540 km between the North Sea at Cadzand and the Drielandenpunt, the tripoint where Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany meet. The trail follows the old route of the Wire of Death, an electric border fence built during World War One to prevent smugglers, spies, deserters or military volunteers to reach the neutral country of the Netherlands from Belgium. Along the way, you cycle past 26 reconstructions, monuments and stories of the Wire of Death.
